Introduction to COVID19 by Dr. Sara Faisal –

Apr 17, 2020

If we take a look at history comprising of 100 years, the Flu virus has been affecting mankind over a period of the past many decades resulting in a heavy death toll globally. The Flu virus strain(a genetic variant of the virus) which we have come across today has a specific name Novel Corona Virus or COVID-19.

It is called  Novel because this is a totally new variant(genetic variant, strain) of virus and its association with number 19 because it emerged in the year 2019. It is called novel because the flu virus with such severity and resistant characteristics e.g its long survival on the surfaces for a span of a few hours and severe complications on the Respiratory system of human beings, proving fatal at times,  has made it a big challenge for the medical personnel to combat it.

The Flu virus which used to be Endemic or Epidemic( limited to an area or smaller regions of the globe) has become  Pandemic. Pandemic is self-explanatory i.e it is affecting all human beings, the world over.

We all must also know that Corona is the hardiest virus of the family  of Flu viruses. We should be aware of the earlier or preceding family members of the Corona Virus family like Spanish flu, MERS(Middle East Respiratory Syndrome), SARS(Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, etc)  which are known to the world.

After Corona Pandemic we should be aware that future is the war between health and diseases, caused by very strange microorganisms of any sort(viruses, bacteriae, etc), only Immunity or resistance of human body will be able to fight back on the front line to safeguard health and fitness.

It is the need of time to be reactive for the current Corona Pandemic and proactive for times to come.
