More than 50% of individuals in Pakistan don’t have access to basic primary healthcare services!

In a country with a total population of 200 million people, more than 50% of individuals in Pakistan don’t have access to basic primary healthcare services, and approximately 42% fail to receive health coverage. Despite the thousands of doctors being produced every year, the country’s doctor-patient ratio remains 1 for every 1200 patients. In this day and age, where science and technology are rapidly growing and evolving, Pakistan’s need for adequate health services can only be met by creating innovations that integrate health and technology.

Sehat Kahani is a health tech social enterprise that aims to democratise health care for all using a network of qualified and previous untapped network of female doctors using telemedicine.

With a previous track record of serving more than 90,000 patients in 24 low income communities through its E – clinics through its network of 1500 female doctors, Sehat Kahani is now venturing into mobile Telemedicine care for the masses as a step to make healthcare accessible to all.

This lead to the launch of the Sehat Kahani Mobile health Application on 29th April 2019 at Nest I/O Karachi in collaboration with Pakistan’s leading Tech company 10 Pearls.Sehat Kahani application in its initial phase is focused on a B2B2C market, providing efficient healthcare to corporate consumers with a retail version of the application for mass market to be available shortly.

The main features of the application allows a patient to record their health history, chat or conduct an audio/video consultation with an available network of qualified doctors and obtain a prescription as well as the facility of at home pharmacy delivery  and lab tests to increase convenience for people who work hard to make ends meet for their families.

The launch event was attended by delegates from leading corporates, pharmaceuticals, telecoms, insurance, banks as well as, social media influencers and Sehat Kahani’s Karachi-based network of doctors, who were all in awe of the new initiative.

During the event, Dr. Sara Saeed Khurram(CEO & CoFounder, Sehat Kahani) shared a heartfelt note about the vision and mission of Sehat Kahani and how the company is building a safe space for female doctors to come back to the workforce.She also expressed the need  and urgency of a quality digital healthcare platform in Pakistan that can be used by patients nationally and globally. She expressed her gratitude towards 10 pearls for coming in a key strategic partner investing in technology development enabling Sehat Kahani to scale forward and impact many more lives.

This was followed by a Panel on “Emergence and Importance of Digital Health in Pakistan” which was moderated by Dr. Iffat Zafar(CoFounder & COO, Sehat Kahani). She shared her personal experience of how not having access to mental health in remote areas can result in devastating situations; highlighting the need of digital healthcare access for not only the low income population but the middle and upper income markets as well equally. The Key Panelists included Syed Abrar(Cofounder and CEO Azaad Health), Alize Valjee(Cofounder CareForHealth) and Dr. Kamran(COO, SINA Primary Healthcare),who have done phenomenal and exceptional work in Digital Health in different capacities.

The application was launched and unveiled, under the prestigious presence of the Director General of Information, Science & Technology, Mr. Yousuf Mohammad, and the President of Pakistan Software Houses Association for IT, and the Founder of Nest I/O  Ms. Jehan Ara who shared her strong sentiments towards not only the Sehat Kahani team but also the immense need of telehealth applications.

The co-founders concluded “This is an honest effort from the Sehat Kahani team to solve an urgent healthcare need for many. As the usability enhances, this application will undergo many iterations to include new features as the possibilities in digital healthcare are endless but we are excited to embark on this ambitious journey with 10 pearls.This will definitely enable the company to go a long way in creating a positive change in patients lives”
